If you want clarity on what is happening in America and around the world today, you need not search farther than St. Paul’s words to the Romans,
Chapter 1:18-27. I invite you to read these verses twice and let the words sink in as you think of the world’s values of political correctness.
1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
I am afraid we are at the point where “God gave them up to….”. In the two-hundred and fifty year history of America today’s values, political correctness, self-righteousness, the belief that “the end justifies the means for violence and the suppression of free speech”, would be a shock to the founders of America and the millions who have serve this country.
Consider this staggering truth. Nearly half of Americans are more prepared to defend the religion of Islam and justify terrorism than they are to support the country in which they live. We have returned to paganism where nature and mother earth are more important than babies in the womb. We have trampled marriage and the nuclear family. As a result why ought we be surprised that the judgment of God Almighty in Jesus Christ is coming upon us?
What should believers in Jesus be doing in these difficult and treacherous times? Luke 21:25 “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
Here is Jesus’ word to you and me today:
- The days ahead are going to be very difficult.
- Know in whom you believe and what you believe.
- Be bold and courageous for Jesus’ truth.
- Expect rejection, pain and sorrow.
- Expect Jesus to come again and have the final word.
The answer to this growing paganism in America and the world is not toleration, understanding and dialogue. It is standing up for the truth and recognizing that, like the prophets of old, most people are going to reject and ridicule. However, standing up for Jesus and His Word honors the truth and gives hope where there is only chaos.
