Jesus said: For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Luke 9:26
Catholic School Removes Jesus, Mary Statues Because They’re ‘Alienating’ to Non-Catholics
Jesus Christ and Mary are the latest victims of the mass statue-removing frenzy. The San Domenico School, the first Catholic school in California, has removed all but 18 of its 180 religious statues in an effort to be more “inclusive” and “forward looking.” Several parents have complained about the decision, according to Marinij. “Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs,” one of these parents, Shannon Fitzpatrick, told the news source. “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower-school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic,” she continued.
In an e-mail to Marinij, Fitzpatrick claimed that “there are other families having the same concerns,” and that “many parents feel if the school is heading in a different direction then the San Domenico community should have been notified before signing of the enrollment for the following year.”

It is important to define our terms: “all inclusive” actually means “ignoring Jesus and his words.” That is precisely what the San Domenico School is doing in order to boost enrollment and finances. Jesus, church history, his followers are being slowly, deliberately and efficiently erased in order to make room for other beliefs and lessen any alienation due to Jesus’ message.
There is no question but that Jesus has a powerful message that demands a response. A followers of Jesus we are not called to lessen the impact of Jesus words but offer others the truth, his grace, and his claims.
THINK ABOUT THE CLAIMS OF JESUS:
1. JESUS CLAIMS TO BE SINLESS
John 8:46-47 “Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
2. JESUS CLAIMED TO BE THE ONLY WAY TO GOD
John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but
3. JESUS CLAIMED TO HAVE SHARED THE GLORY OF GOD IN HEAVEN
John 17:5 “And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.”
4. JESUS CLAIMED TO BE A HEAVENLY KING
Luke 22:69 “But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
5. JESUS CLAIMED TO BE ABLE TO FORGIVE SINS
Luke 5:20-21 “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.’ The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, ‘Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
6. JESUS CLAIMED TO BE ABLE TO GIVE EVERLASTING LIFE
John 6:40 “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”
7. JESUS CLAIMED THAT HE WOULD DIE AND COME BACK TO LIFE
John 12:32-33 “‘But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.’ He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.”
The San Domenico School is playing with fire! Jesus’ claims are not a nice philosophy but the reality of who he is. I would be much more willing to lose potential students and income but be faithful to Jesus than to deny his name.
Judas betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. We must be careful that we are not doing the same thing!
